It is a rather curious name, isn't it? And it's also rather unfair to expect anyone not familiar with early firearms to know what one is. An Arquebus is a smoothbore firearm of the 16th and 17th centuries. It was usually fired by a matchlock, and was ordinarily somewhat smaller than the military muskets of the time.
